Fast Food Worker Organizer with CTUL (Centro de Trabajadores Unidos en la Lucha)

CTUL seeks to hire an organizer to organize with Fast Food Workers in the Twin Cities metro area. This is a part of a national campaign in coordination with organizations in many cities that have participated in a series of coordinated strikes and other workplace actions to win $15/hour and a Union as well as a voice on the job. This position will require a lot of initiative and the ability to work very independently. The position to begin on July 1st, 2014. Please submit resume and cover letter by June 20th.

This is a temporary position until September 5th. At that point, based on completion of goals, the position may continue to be funded indefinitely and we are looking to fill the position with someone who wants to work long term with CTUL.

Take initiative to develop your own leadership to complete your work

Have a car

Have a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends

Bilingual in Spanish is helpful but NOT necessary

Previous organizing experience is helpful but NOT necessary if you are motivated and willing to learn

Previous experience working in fast food is helpful but NOT necessary


Fast Food worker organizer (85% of work)

Look for workers at work and at their homes

Set up 1-1 meetings with workers identified at work, and through other contacts

Listen and understand the interests of each worker in your area

Motivate and agitate workers to fight

Be persistent obtaining commitments from workers

Identify potential leaders

Develop leadership

Get workers to take action including work stoppages/strikes

Develop meeting agendas and facilitate meetings to engage fast food workers


Work with Fast Food  Worker team (5% of time)

Meet regularly with Local supervisor to discuss strategies and check in on progress

Create new strategic ideas about how to move the campaign forward

Check in regularly on national calls to coordinate local work with national work

Be prepared to agitate and be agitated by team with the aim of holding ourselves accountable and performing


Miscellaneous work and leadership development of CTUL’s general base (10% of time)

Perform miscellaneous tasks as part of the team that develop leadership with all workers in CTUL’s base.
