“We Deserve to Live, Not Just Survive” – Black Friday Week of Action 11/28-12/4

During this holiday season, let’s take a minute to think about the working poor in Minnesota. The Minnesota Department of Health recently published a report on poverty and health in the state, highlighting the fact that Minnesotans who live in areas with the highest median household income live an average of 8 years longer than those who live in areas with the lowest median household incomes. According to the report: “The growing economic inequities and the persistence of health disparities in our great state are a matter of life and death for many.”

Low-wage workers across the state are organizing to ensure that all Minnesotans have long and healthy lives. Between Black Friday, November 28 and December 4, 2014, retail janitors, Walmart associates, home healthcare workers, fast food workers, airport workers and others are leading a Week of Action proclaiming that “We Deserve to Live, Not Just Survive.” The week starts with retail janitors on strike, 6-8am on Black Friday at The Quarry Shopping Center (1710 New Brighton Blvd, Minneapolis).
