What a day! Hundreds of workers, renters and community members gathered at the Carpenter’s Union Hall for the launch of our “What Could We Win Together” Week of Action. Check out this video from Line Break Media on the day…
Over 150 members of the organizations that are leading actions over the next week (including over 60 CTUL members!) will be part of a Leadership School, taking a week off of their regular work schedules to participate in leadership trainings and all of the actions of the week. On Day 1, Leadership School participants learned more about each of the fights that will be happening during the week, including brief presentations from two CTUL leaders: Jose Alfredo from our Building Dignity and Respect Campaign, and Estela Tirado from our Downtown Campaign.
During breaks, participants helped make art for the upcoming actions.
Tomorrow we will step out to the streets for a Minneapolis City Council Listening Session, in which dozens of workers will testify about the need for Labor Standards Boards in Minneapolis, as well as joining the picket lines of striking janitors with SEIU Local 26.
And what better way to wrap up Day 1 than with this powerful article on the Week of Action:
- “The Most Important Labor Story Right Now Is In Minnesota – It Might Be the Model We All Need,” Sarah Jaffe, In These Times, March 2, 2024.
- “I just want to make just a very clear message for everyone to know that we’re not alone,” [CTUL member Douglas] Guerra said. “It doesn’t matter your race, it doesn’t matter your gender, it doesn’t matter where you’re from. We all have the right to stand up and fight.”
