Send an email to Curt Gunsbury, telling him it’s time to meet with workers and hear their concerns!
Over two months have passed since a women-led delegation of construction workers delivered a letter to Curt Gunsbury, Founder and Owner of Solhem Companies, asking for a meeting to discuss the abusive conditions they faced on a non-union Solhem construction site.
Gunsbury has not answered workers. Instead, in April he was featured in a Twin Cities Business piece criticizing elected officials’ non-responsiveness regarding safety and development in Minneapolis.
He critiques his council member for not being sufficiently responsive to a letter with his concerns, even calling her “evasive.” What then, does that make Curt, who has ignored over 10 letters, office visits and emails from construction workers and CTUL demanding the Building Dignity and Respect Program to ensure safe conditions on Solhem’s job sites?
He laments the rise in theft; stolen bicycles, packages and copper. However, he says nothing of the most common form of theft in the US: wage theft. The Guardian reports: “Workers in the US have an estimated $50bn-plus stolen from them every year, according to the Economic Policy Institute, surpassing all robberies, burglaries and motor vehicle thefts combined.”
Just this past October, workers on Solhem’s The Fred Project were forced to file a lien to recover $41,000 of stolen wages. Gunsbury has refused to meet with these workers or hear their stories.
If Gunsbury is serious about protecting the livelihood and security of our community members, there’s a clear path forward. It’s time for Solhem to meet with construction workers and sign on to the Building Dignity and Respect Program. Send an email to Curt today!
